The ingredients needed to make Traditional Banana Blossom Curry:
- Take 2 cup banana flower(boiled and chopped)
- Get 1 medium sized diced potato
- Get 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- Make ready 1 dry whole red chilli
- Make ready 2 bay leaves
- Get 1 tsp cumin powder
- Take 1 tsp coriander powder
- Make ready 3-4 green chillies
- Prepare 1 tsp ginger paste
- Prepare 1 tsp turmeric powder
- Get 1 tsp garam masala powder
- Make ready 3 tbsp small brown chickpeas/chole(soaked overnight)
- Prepare 4-5 tbsp mustard oil
- Make ready 1 tsp sugar
- Make ready to taste Salt
Drain the banana flower from the water and place it in the wok with the curry paste. Saute for a few more minutes. Add bay leaves and kaffir lemon leaves, plus the lemongrass stalks and coconut milk. If necessary, add a little water to cover the ingredients.
Instructions to make Traditional Banana Blossom Curry:
- At first, cleaned the florets of banana blossom and chopped them into small pieces, keep it submerged in water along with salt and turmeric powder for 30 minutes.
- Boil the banana blossom adding a little salt.Drain the excess water and keep aside.Let it cool.
- Add 1 tbsp of mustard oil in a kadai and fry the potatoes and keep them aside.
- Boil small brown chickpeas,drain the excess water and keep aside.
- Again heat mustard oil in the kadai,add the cumin seeds,dry whole red chilli and bay leaves,and once the cumin seeds start to splutter,add ginger paste and fry for few seconds then add the boiled banana blossom.
- Add turmeric powder and salt.Cover the pan with a lid,and allow it to cook for 10 minutes on a slow flame.
- Add cumin powder,coriander powder,turmeric powder and red chilli powder and mix well.
- Add the fried potatoes and cook till all the ingredients are soft. Also add a spoon of sugar and salt.Mix well.
- Now add the boiled small brown chickpeas, and cook for 5-7 minutes.
- Add the grated coconut now and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Finally,add the garam masala powder and mix.
- Cook on a low flame until the water has dried out.
- Banana Blossom Curry is ready to serve.
- Garnish it with some more grated coconut.
- This dish goes very well with steamed rice.
Add bay leaves and kaffir lemon leaves, plus the lemongrass stalks and coconut milk. If necessary, add a little water to cover the ingredients. Saute garlic and onions, add red bell pepper, banana blossoms, curry, soy sauce, and vinegar, stir to mix. Note: fresh banana blossoms are tougher than the canned ones. Chop the banana flower to fine pieces.
